Margot Robbie is all set to play Harley Quinn, and she also serves as the producer. Interestingly, she was the one who pitched the idea of the movie to Warner bros Picture. So, thank you, Margot! Furthermore, she was heavily involved in the project right from the start. She reportedly insisted Warner Bros. for a female director and, in the end, got her heart’s desire.

Joining Margot, is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, playing Huntress. Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya are also in the movie.

So, along with an all-female cast, Cathy Yan is the director, and Christina Hodson is the writer of the film. With all-female team-up, Birds of Prey is all set to become a blockbuster. Most importantly, women telling women stories is something we certainly needed to ensure gender equality in Hollywood.

Sequel?

In a recent interview, Margot revealed that she’s open to the idea of a potential sequel. She said, “I would hope so,” she further added, “I think it would be amazing if people respond to this film. The idea is really to set up the idea of the Birds of Prey; In the comics, there are tons of different comic book characters that duck in and out of the group. So the point of this is really to open that doorway and to watch the Birds of Prey start to emerge.”

While expressing how Birds of prey could lead to more opportunities for female superhero films, she said: “My hope with that was that it could kick off a world of these women outside the main DC universe.”
