It is now confirmed that Disney is coming with the sixth instalment of the movie Pirates of the Caribbean. And boy are we ready to welcome our beloved pirate movie series again. But the new movie has a lot of changes made to it. Here are a few of them.
Release Date & Cast
Disney confirmed that the movie is still in its early stages of making. Now we can expect the movie to release in 2021 somewhere before June. The release date has been shifted from this year itself to the next year due to the slow start of the production and some new changes.
The previous movies of the franchise saw Jhonny Depp (CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow), Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) and Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann). Others include Brenton Thwaites (Henry Turner), Kaya Scodelario (Carina Barbossa) and Kevin McNally (Joshamee Gibbs a.k.a Mr Gibbs). Apart from them, we also have Geoffrey Rush, Javier Bardem, Lee Arenberg (Pintel), Mackenzie Crook (Ragetti), Bill Nighy (Davy Jones), Martin Klebba (Marty), etc.
Plot
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will be a continuation of the fifth film titled “Dead Men Tell No Tales”. The new movie will be a reboot of the franchise. Writer Ted Elliott (has worked before for the franchise ) and “Chernobyl” creator Craig Mazin are hired to develop the story for the new film.
People Involved
Back in October 2018, news of a reboot first surfaced in the media. Disney, at that time, hired Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as the project screenwriters. President of the production at Disney, Sean Bailey said that they picked Reese and Wernick because they can “bring in new energy and vitality… we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that’s what I’ve tasked them with.”
But sadly, after a year, Reese and Wernick departed the project. And finally, Disney has returned to veteran Pirates screenwriter Ted Elliott for the screenplay. Newcomer Craig Mazin will be joining him. We are also expecting Jerry Bruckheimer to once again be at the helm as producer.
New Storyline
Disney needs to bring back the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise with a new story. The last instalment of the movie didn’t create that big of a buzz. Early rumours of the movie suggest that it will include a female lead. Rumour has it that Karen Gillan and Emma Watson will star in it. Also, there are some rumours that the franchise might move on from Jack Sparrow and focus more on a new star. This will help them reboot the franchise and build a new audience. There’s also another rumour of a Disney Plus version of “Pirates” with a younger Jack Sparrow.
