The swashbuckling pirates are returning to the big screen soon! Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 is in production and will hit the screens soon.
Renewed Or Not?
Initial plans by Disney to shoot the fifth and sixth film back to back did not really pan out. The movie is definitely coming through, as director Joachim Ronning confirmed. Dead Men Tell No Tales was just the beginning of another adventure.
Yet, it’s not all smooth sailing for the pirate-thriller franchise. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick quit in 2019. They were replaced by Ted Elliott and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl).
The producers are attempting to breathe fresh life into the franchise struggling to reinvent itself. The dated narrative and repetitive feel of the franchise have resulted in a drop in box office revenues.
The Rumours
Rumours initially suggested that Johnny Depp would be dropped to reinvent the movie. Recent rumours, however, tell a different tale. Johnny Depp could reprise his role as Jack Sparrow even as he deals with issues in his personal life. This is welcome news for fans of the adorable rascal pirate.
There is likely to be a new female lead. Redhead or Redd is set to feature prominently in the move. Kaya Scodelario is returning though but she is unlikely to lead the movie.
Upcoming Details
We don’t know much about the new movie. Disney is keeping it tightly under wraps for now. According to fan choices, Daisy Ridley and Karen Gillian could be cast as Redd.
The franchise has grossed over $4.5 billion over the past 14 years. Yet, the last film was the lowers grossing of all.
Hence a reboot is in order. Whether this is the way to go, only time will tell. We will get to know more details as the movie goes into production. Watch this space to know more!
