Detective Pikachu 2 Is It Renewed Or Cancelled; Rumors About Its Future, Upcoming Details About Next Movie

The adorable bolt-shooting, Pikachu is back! The previous movie had barely left the theatres when its sequel was confirmed.

How Do We Know?

In January, Legendary Pictures announced the sequel and confirmed that it was already in production. Oren Uziel (Sonic the Hedgehog) is writing the script. We love this. It promises to be a brilliant detective-fest. Plus Ryan Reynolds is there, of course.

However, it’s worth noting that there was even a sequel scheduled for Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot before its release – and we all know how that turned out.

But let’s keep positive and round up what we know about Detective Pikachu 2 so far.

Rumours

The timescale would mean that we couldn’t expect to see the sequel before late 2020 if filming got underway this year. Should they want to aim for it, Warner Bros does have a slot for “Untitled WB Event Film” on December 25, 2020.

We’re probably looking at 2021 at the earliest though and Warner Bros has an “Event Film” release slot currently free on February 2, 2021.

All Right Then, Keep Your Secrets.

At the moment we can assume that Justice Smith will be back as Tim Goodman and Ryan Reynolds will be back too.

The end of the first movie revealed that the reason Tim could hear Detective Pikachu was that Mewtwo had transferred Harry’s consciousness into the Pokemon to save him. With the danger gone, Mewtwo restored Harry to his human form and Pikachu is back on the adorable “pika, pika” intonation.

There was no post-credits scene on the first movie to tease the sequel, so we’ll be waiting for the first footage for some time yet

No post-credits, no trailers, no jaw-dropping tweets from Ryan Reynolds. We’re still waiting to hear how the movie will go forward and what the future holds.

Rest assured, we’ll be the first ones to let you know. Stay connected for upcoming updates.
