The series indeed has been renewed for a 6th installment. Pirates of Caribbean first debuted the entertainment industry on July 9, 2003 with Pirates of Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Further on July 7, 2006 the series released its 2nd installment Pirates of Caribbean : Dead Man’s Chest. Then next year on May 25, 2007, with its 3rd installment, Pirates of Caribbean: At World’s End. Pirates of Caribbean : On Stranger Tides and Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales were released on May 20, 2011 and May 26, 2017 respectively.

Shortly before the release of On Stranger Tides, it was reported that Disney was planning to shoot the fifth and the sixth films back-to-back. Although ultimately only the fifth installment was developed.

Although the renewal for the sixth installment was announced in 2017 no firther updates have been given by the moviemakers yet. In October of the same year, Kaya Scodelario stated that she is contractually signed to return for a sixth film. Shortly after, it was confirmed that Rønning will direct the film.

Rumours About its Future

The sixth installment which will be directed by Joachim Ronning, who is also the director of Pirates of Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Johnny Depp will be reprising his role as our beloved Captain Jack Sparrow, for sixth installment of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise.

Although the previous film ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’ was the lowest grossing film in the franchise, the forthcoming movie will be a continuation of its prior.

Although the movie was expected to be released this year but according to Disney the movie may release its sixth installment in mid 2021. New writers Jeff Nathans on and Terry Rossio are working on the script of the film and plan to change the lead character to a female lead.
