Significance

With Twitter non-complying with Union IT Ministry’s order to ban certain accounts and several Union Government officials publicly endorsing the Koo App, it indicates that the Government is willing to go an extra mile to teach Twitter a lesson. Twitter hasn’t been paying heed to Government’s Demands and this made Government sent a strongly worded message to Twitter stating that “they are obliged to obey the directions of the government. Refusal to do so will invite penal action”.

The US-born Microblogging site also risks their senior officials facing jail term under the Section 69A (3) of the IT Act for non-compliance with the Government’s demands.

The kerfuffle would continue proceeding as Koo app’s installations would continue soaring. Twitter needs to take a definite stand or it stands a risk of losing its user base in India.
