India, Russia, and other Central Asian countries on December 19th, 2021 expressed serious concern and pledged to speed up efforts to tackle terrorism.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to support the Government of Afghanistan in consolidating peace and stability while addressing the pressing humanitarian needs of the Afghan people.
Ministers noted that there was a broad regional consensus on issues related to Afghanistan, which includes the formation of a truly representative and inclusive government, combating terrorism and drug trafficking,” the joint statement said.
Ministers expressed their serious concern about the continued violations and combating terrorism.
They expressed their strong commitment to finding ways to help the Afghan people to attain peace and stability in their country.
The Ministers welcomed the efforts being made by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for providing immediate humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people besides preserving their rights of women, children, and other national ethnic groups, as per Latest News.
The Ministers also expressed their satisfaction at the efforts being made by members of the Contact Group for Afghanistan to bring about peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The meeting was hosted by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and attended by his counterparts from the five countries, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
In his opening remarks, Jaishankar pitched for finding ways to help the Afghan people cope with the situation in view of the ongoing violence there.
He also talked about the UN’s role in Afghanistan as well as the need for providing immediate humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people besides preserving the rights of women, children, and other national ethnic groups.
“We must find ways of helping the people of Afghanistan,” he said.
“We cannot be spectators to this tragedy. We need to work with our friends in Central Asia and within the multilateral system to help Afghanistan survive this crisis and emerge stronger.”
He added that India is committed to taking its ties with Central Asia to the next level. “Our meeting today comes amid a rapidly changing global economic and political situation. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an enormous setback to global health and to the global economy,” he said.
He comes up with the 4C approach leading focus on Commerce, bringing business news, capacity enhancement, connectivity, and contact so as to enhance the cooperation from both sides.
