Sonic and Dumbledore put magic at the box office

As expected, ‘Sonic 2. The Movie‘ has positioned itself as the new leader of the North American box office in the same way that ‘Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets‘ has made it to the Spanish box office. Part by part. The sequel to the 2020 film has made just over $70 million (always) in its opening weekend in the United States (in 4,234 theaters), becoming the biggest opening for a film based on a video game ahead of its predecessor, which debuted at the time with 58 million. In a single weekend he has raised more than he might raise’Morbius‘. And it is that the film starring Jared Leto has left more than 70% compared to its premiere last week, both in the United States and also in the rest of the world. Quite a record (negative). 25 million compared to 84 million last week for a world total of just over 126. One cannot speak of failure, but neither of success. And the same can be said of ‘Ambulance – Escape Plan‘ despite having opened in the United States with some 8.7 million (in 3,412 theaters), being the worst opening of a film directed by Michael Bay. It has only cost 40 million and in the whole world it already adds up to more than 30, so as soon as it lasts it will be profitable; especially if we take into account that it is a type of film that usually enjoys a good second life in home format. That yes, it seems to confirm that at least in the United States adults still do not set foot in movie theaters again… … except if perhaps, to see A24 productions such as ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once‘, which has managed to raise just over 6 million in its expansion to 1,250 cinemas. Already converted into one of the popular phenomena of the year, the film, which apparently in Spain we will be able to see by Movistar Plus+ in the near future, has raised more or less the same as the action film starring Jake Gyllenhaal. In case anyone is wondering, its budget is only 25 million. Last but not least, to say that ‘Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets‘ has managed to collect 58 million in its premiere in 22 markets, one of them Spain. As we said at the beginning, the film has led the box office in our country with ease and a collection of about 3.1 million, which in exchange is about 2.8 million euros. A very good figure… although clearly less than the 4 million (€) that its predecessor achieved (with Johnny Depp as the main claim).
