Michael Pitt has joined the cast of ‘Black Flies’, adaptation of the 2008 novel by Shannon Burke whose script is signed by the novelist himself along with Ryan King. Pitt has joined a cast that also includes Tye Sheridan, Katherine Waterston and Sean Penn, the latter replacing the initially planned Mel Gibson. The plot of this film, already in production, revolves around the relationship between two paramedics, one young (Sheridan) and the other experienced (Penn). The second, turned by his own initiative into a mentor of the first, guide the latter through the harsh reality that hides in the darkest corners of a city, New York, devastated by high crime rates, homelessness or widespread drug use. Announced in February 2019, the project has now changed hands and will finally be backed by Sculptor Media, Force Majeure, wiip, Projected Picture Works and Open Road Films, a company that will also handle its theatrical distribution in the United States. For its part, FilmNation Entertainment will manage its international sales during the imminent “March du Film” parallel to the Cannes Film Festival. Warren Goz, Eric Gold, Christopher Kopp, Lucan Toh, Sean Penn, John Ira Palmer and John Wildermuth are the producers of ‘Black Flies’, with Luke Rodgers, Tye Sheridan, James Masciello, Matthew Sidari, Tom Ortenberg, Ryan King, Josh Stern and Shannon Burke. This will be the third feature film by French director Jean-Stephane Sauvaire, responsible for ‘Johnny Mad Dog’ and ‘A prayer before dawn‘, a film that we were able to see in Sitges in October 2017 and that, if I’m not mistaken, remains unreleased in our country, despite the fact that Vertigo Films came to publish its trailer dubbed into Spanish in May 2018. Lastly, I should mention that Sean Penn right now we can see him in ‘Gaslit‘, the interesting Starzplay miniseries that stars alongside Julia Roberts, Dan Stevens, Betty Gilpin and Shea Whigham whose trailer (dubbed into Spanish) you can see below.
