As reported by Variety, ‘Scarlet Witch and Vision’ director Matt Shakman has been hired to take charge of the upcoming untitled live-action series about Godzilla and the Titans. The Emmy-nominated filmmaker will direct its first two episodes, and has also set as executive producer of this production distributed by Apple TV + announced last January. The series will be set in Legendary’s MonsterVerse, in a story that takes place after the events of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ and explore one family’s journey to uncover their buried secrets and a legacy that links them to the secret organization known as Monarch. After the success of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’, with $467 million in worldwide box office receipts, Legendary began dreaming up an expansion of its MonsterVerse through television, which Apple immediately took an interest in. It wasn’t long before a studio-platform deal was struck. Produced by Legendary Television (“Night Sky”), creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction will also executive produce, with Black serving as showrunner. Executive producers also include Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures and Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita of Toho, company that owns Godzilla. In addition to this live-action series, Shankman plans to direct another high-profile project in the near future: the new ‘Star Trek’ movie for Paramount Pictures. This project will be his second feature film as a director, being ‘Cut Bank’ in 2014. first.
