In Iran, the sentence for drug possession is the same whether you carry 30 grams or 50 kilos: The death penalty. Under these conditions, drug traffickers have no qualms about playing big and crack sales have skyrocketed: The number of addicts has gone from 1 million to 6.5. After years of tracking down drug lord Nasser K., a persistent and expeditious cop named Samad finally gets his hands on him. Although he believed that the case was closed, the confrontation with the mastermind of the network takes a completely unexpected turn… The tour of ‘Tehran’s law‘ is as unique as the film itself. Selected at the Venice Film Festival in 2019, Saeed Roustaee’s film premiered in Iran with unprecedented box office success in the country’s film history. Later, it also broke all known figures in its home and streaming market. The pandemic arrived in 2020 and, with it, the premieres and markets were stopped, but the praise and word of mouth were increasingly intense, until it won the award for Best Film and the Critics’ Award at the Reims Festival 2021, the most important in the noir genre. François Geriff himself, one of the top experts in the field, defined it as “a vertiginous journey and an absolute revelation of its author”. In 2022 this journey culminates with the nomination for the César Awards for Best International Film and with the participation of its director, Saeed Roustaee, at the Cannes Festival, where her film ‘Leila’s Brothers’ has won the Critics’ Award. ‘Tehran’s law‘ finally arrives in Spanish cinemas on June 24 with La Aventura.
