Justin Lin has been chosen by Sony Pictures to direct the North American live-action adaptation of the popular manga. ‘One Punch Man’. According to THR, the director, responsible for up to five installments of the ‘Full throttle’ franchise, is finalizing negotiations to take charge of a film that of course the company hopes will be the start of a lucrative franchise. Let’s remember that Lin was also going to be the director of ‘Fast & Furious 10‘, although at the end of April and with filming already underway, he decided to abandon the project due to creative differences with Vin Diesel, later being replaced by Frenchman Louis Leterrier. Created by Japanese artist ONE, ‘One Punch Man’ was born in 2009 as a webseries, although its success and popularity led to its publication, both digitally and physically, starting in 2012 (as far as ours is concerned, it went through Norma Comics), and to the making of an anime consisting of two seasons released in 2015 and 2019. Its story takes place in a fictional metropolis known as City Z, in Japan, and in a world that has been invaded by strange and mysterious monsters. Monsters that, however, are easily defeated by Saitama, a powerful superhero who just needs a single blow from his fist to defeat any rival who gets in front of him. Because of this Saitama, 25 years old, bald, with an expressionless look and considered the most powerful man to have walked the Earth, has come to find his strength boring and therefore, he is always trying to find rivals more powerful than him. they may involve some kind of effort or challenge. Produced by Ari Arad through his Arad Productions, the live-action, North American adaptation of ‘One Punch Man’ tell as announced in April 2020 with a four-handed script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. Rosenberg is known for having been a screenwriter for films such as ‘Beautiful Girls’, ‘Con Air’, ‘High Fidelity’, ’60 Seconds’ or ‘Kangaroo Jack’, as well as for having commissioned from the North American version of ‘Life on Mars’. For his part, Pinkner, seasoned in JJ Abrams series such as ‘Alias’, ‘Perdidos’ or ‘Fringe (Al lmite)’, has participated in the scripts for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2: The Power of Electro’, ‘The fifth wave’ or ‘The Dark Tower’. In recent years it seems that both have been associated because, in addition to having created the CBS series ‘Zoo’, they have also signed the scripts for ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ and its sequel, ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’, as well like the one in ‘Venom’.
