Zac Efron to Star in ‘The Iron Claw,’ Based on the Von Erich Family of Wrestlers

A24 has given the green light to a future drama starring Zac Efron that will revolve around one of the most well-known and tragic families in wrestling, the Von Erichs. Written and directed by Sean Durkin (‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’, ‘The Nest’), the film will reflect the history of the aforementioned Von Erich family, both its great moments and its less good ones. The Von Erich family has had a huge impact on wrestling since the 1960s, being known for what we might call their tragic family curse. Of the six children of wrestler and promoter Fritz Von Erich, five entered the ring, four of whom died before the age of 35. Most of Fritz’s sons, including Kerry Von Erich, were wrestlers before they died of various causes. To this day Marshall and Ross Von Erich, the sons of Kevin Von Erich (Fritz’s last living son), are still wrestlers. A24 will produce alongside Tessa Ross, Derrin Schlesinger and Harrison Huffman this project which has been developed by House Productions with the support of Access Entertainment and BBC Films.
