Torc Robotics is getting closer to the introduction of autonomous trucks on public roads. The company is still testing a new technology that will eliminate the need to hire drivers. In the near future, public roads will be full of all kinds of autonomous vehicles that will transport goods. He will certainly be among them the work of Estonian engineers in the form of the CLEVON 1 vehicle, but not only. Torc Robotics, an independent subsidiary of Daimler Truck, is also working on a similar technology, which tests autonomous trucks. And there is already another step closer to introducing them on public roads. The tested vehicles were equipped with a Level 4 autonomy that allows operation in specific areas without the involvement of the driver. The same technology is used by autonomous taxis, tested in many cities around the world. Torc Robotics has announced that it has partnered with Schneider National, a logistics company that will help launch a test fleet of autonomous trucks. Schneider will deliver the loads to the pilot program, also offering its own freight expertise. Both companies strive to bring highly personalized 18-wheelers to commercial use from the beginning of 2023. Torc works closely with Daimler Truck to optimize products, including virtual controller, sensors and hardware, and a redundant chassis. It hopes to become the first company to introduce a scalable and profitable self-propelled product to the market.
