Samsung demonstrated the first retractable OLED screen for a computer

At the Intel 2022 Innovation forum, Samsung demonstrated the world’s first sliding OLED screen for computers. The panel can change the diagonal from 13 to 17 ″. A few days ago informed about the new video presenting the unusual LG Rollable smartphone. This device was designed by LG engineers, and although it will never appear on the market, it amazes with the solutions it uses. The phone is equipped with a sliding screen that allows you to increase its surface if necessary. This solution seems to be better than foldable smartphones, but since LG withdrew from the mobile device market, it seemed that it would never appear in commercial products. It turns out, however, that the idea was picked up by Samsung, which created a sliding OLED screen. We could see the technology this week at the Intel 2022 Innovation Forum, where its capabilities were demonstrated. The screen presented by the head of Samsung Display can change its diagonal, sliding apart or sliding as needed. So it is an excellent panel for laptops, allowing the user to increase the screen area when needed. Unlike Samsung foldable phones, here the collapsed section of the screen slides on rails located in the bezel. By default, the screen has a diagonal of 13 ″, but when it is extended, it reaches 17 ″. The screen prototype demonstrated during the presentation probably has not been fully developed yet. The sliding and sliding were accompanied by disturbing sounds. There was also a visible crease running down the panel. Of course, we must remember that the demonstrated panel is probably a very early prototype and by the time the technology is released to the market, engineers will be able to solve all the problems. At the moment, we do not know when the first devices equipped with such retractable displays could appear.
