The robot Cassie is the new Guines record holder in a 100 m run

The Cassie robot, developed by Agility Robotics, broke a new Guinness record for 100 meters in the category for two-legged machines. He defeated it in 24.73 seconds. It might seem that the robots designed by the companies, which we see in the media every now and then, are very slow and would not be able to catch up with people. This is a completely wrong impression. In fact, machines can be quite fast, as exemplified by the Cassie robot developed by engineers from Agility Robotics. This week the machine made it to the Guinness Book of Records, setting a new 100m race record for two-legged robots. It defeated it in 24.73 seconds, thus becoming the fastest robot on our globe. For comparison, the fastest man in the world covers this distance in 9.58 seconds. The robot is therefore more than twice slower than it, but it is still quite an achievement. It’s worth noting that Cassie is the first robot to use machine learning to control its running in open terrain. Structurally, of course, it differs significantly from humans. His knees bend in the opposite direction, more like an ostrich’s limbs. The machine does not have any external sensors or cameras, so it practically works blind while running. During the record breaking, she deviated from her track, which of course was a problem. Fortunately, it did not turn out to be a big enough obstacle to make it impossible to break the record. However, the machine has a lot of potential. Before breaking the record, she proved that she can cover a distance of 5 km on a single battery charge, which took her 53 minutes. Cassie is the fastest two-legged robot, but there are other machines that are just as fast. These include the work of Boston Dynamics, which is the fastest bipedal, humanoid robot with knees.
