Canadian pizza lovers may be surprised to see how they get their order from Pizza Hut. It will be provided by a robot designed by Serve Robotics. I have written many times that robots can soon send to unemployment all people who deliver parcels or meals to go. Contrary to appearances, this is not a scenario from the distant future, but a reality, because machines are already dealing with this type of task.
Pizza Hut is testing robotic suppliers
The use of robotic suppliers has just been started by the Canadian branch of the Pizza Hut chain, which in this way fulfills customer orders for pancakes. For this purpose, the company uses technology designed by Serve Robotics engineers. For now, of course, the robots only deliver pizza as part of the test program, and this form of delivery is completely voluntary. When placing an order via the company’s application, the customer can choose whether he wants to receive it in the traditional way or via a robot.
In the second case, the application allows you to specify the place of delivery, and then constantly allows you to track the location of the robotic courier during its journey to the destination. When he reaches the destination, the customer receives a one-time PIN that will allow him to get to the built-in clipboard to select an order from it. The tests are conducted in Vancouver, and the delivery bots only fulfilled orders for very short distances. They could only travel a few kilometers each day. Machines equipped with an electric drive can move on pavements and safely avoid pedestrians. By default, they move autonomously, but Serve Robotics engineers monitor their work and can take control of the bot at any time.
The director of the Canadian branch of Pizza Hut says the company does not want to replace the people who deliver the orders with robots. However, this may be a viable solution to any employment gap. In his opinion, machines can use bots to fulfill less profitable orders, which took longer for suppliers. Of course, sooner or later the machines will take over from humans anyway. They can work around the clock, do not get sick and do not need holidays, so thanks to them companies can save a lot of money. Source
