‘Raymond & Ray’ – While you are knitting

Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke are ‘Raymond & Ray’, literally speaking. Because the film is not understood without the two of them. Or rather, it doesn’t hold up, showing in the process that making an efficient and successful ‘feel good movie’ is, after all, not as easy as it seems, depending on how kind, pleasant and/or comforting movies with happy endings ( and often an Oscar). And that neither McGregor nor Hawke play the roles of their lives. They are not even particularly interesting characters, although knowing how to be of both together with the sympathy of a Maribel Verd who improves over the years is more than enough, given the lack of brilliance of the whole. A well-intentioned, good-natured and light set that is seen and forgotten, just like that and without further ado. A seen and not seen while knitting. It neither bores nor annoys, neither surprises nor excites. As a spectator it is not a challenge, in a very banal and purely transitory production that has plenty of good humor and lacks chicha. Mordant. Nerve. Hook. Bad slime. Packing. Soul. As if it were a group of friends who have shot a movie on the go while on vacation, with the ease of who knows but like Piqu, neither makes an effort nor hides it.
