In the near future, the unusual futuristic city of The Line will be built in one of the deserts of Saudi Arabia. 9 million people are to live in it. We all know what modern cities look like. They occupy a huge area, consume a lot of energy, and moving around it is a real nightmare for residents. The streets are always jammed, and due to the exhaust fumes produced by cars, sometimes windows cannot be opened. However, the Saudi Arabian government believes that it is possible to build a city that is not only environmentally friendly, but also friendly to its citizens. In this country, a project called The Line has just started, which may redefine the city. In fact, the term city does not fit well here, as it will be a completely different project than Warsaw, Łódź or Kraków.
The Line is a modern city of the future
The city is to be very compact and fully self-sufficient, and the energy needed for its operation will come 100% from renewable sources. It will cover a total area of 34 square kilometers and will accommodate 9 million inhabitants. However, its shape is very interesting, because in accordance with the name it is a line. The megacity will therefore be 170 km long and only 200 m wide. Interestingly, as you can see in the graphics presented by the designers, its façade will be mirrored. This will not only give it a futuristic look, but can also blend in with the surroundings.
Source: Neom It’s a bit hard to imagine a metropolis with such dimensions, but the company Neom, founded by the Saudi Arabian government, thinks it makes sense. Thanks to this, it will be possible to move between several districts on foot, and reaching them will take only a few minutes. The originators do not plan cars in it, but they do not intend to give up transport. High-speed rail will allow you to cross the entire metropolis in about 20 minutes. On YouTube, we can see a short promotional video confirming the start of the investment. Unfortunately, we won’t see much on it and the video only shows the preparation of the site. Neom does not reveal when the first inhabitants will be able to move into the city. However, it is estimated that the project will be ready by 2030, which is undoubtedly a bold assumption. Source
