Germany's GDP fell 0.1% in the second quarter

Published on July 30, 2024 MADRID, Jul 30 (EUROPA PRESS) – Germany’s gross domestic product (GDP) registered a contraction of 0.1% in the second quarter, after the 0.2% expansion observed in the first three months of 2024, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported. According to Destatis, this contraction between April and June reflected the decrease in investments in equipment and buildings, adjusted for price, seasonality and calendar effects. Compared to the second quarter of last year, Europe’s largest economy registered an expansion of 0.3%. For its part, France’s GDP registered an expansion of 0.3% between April and June compared to the previous three months, when it also grew by 0.3%. Insee estimates that the Olympic Games being held in Paris will probably boost the growth of the French economy this year and GDP expansion in the third quarter could accelerate to 0.5%. The Spanish economy also grew by 0.8% in the second quarter of the year, the same as in the previous quarter, and accelerated its year-on-year growth by three-tenths to 2.9%, according to the preliminary data from the National Accounting Office published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). In turn, Italy registered a slight deceleration in GDP growth in the second quarter, which increased by 0.2% compared to the first quarter, when the expansion was 0.3%. Compared to the same period last year, the Italian economy grew by 0.9%.
