'Poltergeist' finds showrunners

The television series of 'Poltergeist' has found its showrunners in the figures of Kalinda Vazquez ('Prison Break') and Robbie Thompson ('Supernatural'). As reported by Variety, the pair have officially joined the project as writers, showrunners and executive producers and will help develop the next Amazon MGM Studios project. The series, in development since it was announced last year, will be inspired by the legendary 1982 horror film of the same name. Let's remember that the franchise already had a television series in the late 90s. Titled 'Poltergeist: The Legacy', the series was produced from 1996 to 1999 and had four seasons and a total of 87 episodes. As for the latest installment of the franchise, it arrived in 2015 with 'Poltergeist', a remake of the film directed by Tobe Hooper. Written by Steven Spielberg, the original film stars Craig T. Nelson, JoBeth Williams, Beatrice Straight and Dominique Dunne. In it, a typical American family begins to suffer paranormal phenomena in their home. At first, the spirits manifest themselves by moving furniture and other objects around the house, but soon they become aggressive and trouble begins. When all scientific and rational explanations have failed, the parents hire a spiritualist. The success of the film allowed it to raise around 121 million dollars on a budget of 11 million. It also generated two sequels, 'Poltergeist II: The Other Side' (1986) and 'Poltergeist III' (1988). Amazon hopes that the popularity of the saga will attract fans again with a series that will undoubtedly be broadcast on Prime Video.
