Last Thursday we learned that Simon Kinberg ('X-Men: Dark Phoenix') had been chosen as the scriptwriter for a new trilogy of 'Star Wars' which will be produced by Kinberg himself and Kathleen Kennedy. Now, Jeff Sneider of The InSneider reports that Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey Skywalker in the new trilogy, positioning herself as “the new Obi-Wan” of the mythical saga. At the moment it is unclear whether or not the trilogy will continue with the Skywalker saga. According to Deadline's Mike Fleming Jr.: “I hear this will comprise episodes 10-12 of the saga that began with George Lucas' 1977 film. My sources dispute my information that Kinberg will continue that story, saying that this trilogy, in Instead, it will begin a new saga and sit alongside budding Star Wars projects with James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover.” For his part, Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter said: “The new story is not intended to be a continuation of the Skywalker saga. Instead, it will focus on completely new characters and a new story.” Although neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have commented on the matter, Sneider's bet is that these three films will be positioned as Episodes X, XI and XII. Another matter to be discovered is what relationship this trilogy will have with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars film. In 2023, it was announced that Obaid-Chinoy will direct a film set after the events of 'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' (2019), which will show Rey (Ridley) as she builds a new Jedi Order. Steven Knight had been tapped to write the script, although he left the project last month.
