The lyrics of the songs

Words, phrases and verses are an essential ingredient of songs. The verbal element is practically what defines and distinguishes them from other musical artifacts, and it has a whole history and characteristics of its own behind it.

Song Lyrics Project Here is the series of podcasts that I have dedicated to the elements and issues directly related to the writing of song lyrics, to their verses and language, to the stories and messages they contain.

We are going to go step by step, focusing our attention on the details, on the concrete and also on the most general. You can use it as a guide or consultation when writing the lyrics of your songs, when we leave theory aside and move on to practice. 1. Elements and types: Syllables, words, verses are the minimum units that make up the lyrics of the songs. Through meter and rhyme we organize the structure of the text, we create verses, choruses and the other sections of the song. 2. The speech: Songs are, in the opinion of many, stories. That is, literary texts, literature, to a large extent. Emotions and plot are deployed with the help of narrative techniques, their approaches, purposes and genres to shape their story. 3. The metric: The measure of the verses, and their combinations, give the lyrics a rhythm, an internal meaning and a specific musicality. 4. The rhyme: Rhyme is music and memory, at the same time. Songs use it to get into our heads and stay there for a long time. 5. The narrative technique: When we start writing lyrics for any song, we must take into account some details that will help us make our words form an effective whole in accordance with the purpose we want it to fulfill. 6. The literary resources: Figures of speech are, among others, basic resources when writing songs. From the simplest and most everyday to the most sophisticated, these literary tools turn the lyrics of a song into something stylized and even more powerful. 7. The language: The type of expressions, words and other purely linguistic elements that we use to write our lyrics will have a very important role in the final form of the song and in the impact they will have on the audience. 8. The themes: Something that can sometimes be a problem or a source of doubt when writing song lyrics is what exactly we are going to talk about. Themes are a pillar of any literary text and of letters, of course, too. 9. The text: In this chapter we do not look at the set of elements that we have seen so far and that, combined, make up the final form of the lyrics of a song, what we could call the text. 10. The writing: And to end the series, we are going to deal with the very act of writing, stopping to think and writing the lyrics of the songs. How to face such a delicate task, with so many nuances, with so many possibilities. Let's talk about writing song lyrics.

Write without fear. Correct mercilessly.

The lyrics of a song as an objective

Throughout this cycle of podcast chapters I have treated the lyrics of the songs as what they are, a specific literary genre, with its own characteristics and peculiarities. Lyricists, in a more or less conscious way, handle all these issues by imagining what they want to say in their creations, by composing their verses, by trying and discarding combinations, by carrying out, finally, the art of writing songs. Because writing a song is a rich and varied task, sometimes simple and other times complex, a hybrid of sounds and meanings that can make us believe in incredible things, like that life has meaning, or that we have truly loved, or that We are better than we ever imagined. Our goal is always to write more inspired, more evocative, more authentic lyrics, to discover what exactly a song is for us, what it can offer us and others. And it is a worthwhile purpose. I invite you to do it. Write a song, another one if you've already done so. There is a lot to tell and learn in that adventure. We need to make that trip and meet with others in our particular delirium. It's time. Write at least the lyrics to one song. #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_form { } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_column_with_background { padding: 10px; } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_form_column:not(:first-child) { margin-left: 20px; } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_paragraph { line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_segment_label, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_text_label, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_textarea_label, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_select_label, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_radio_label, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_checkbox_label, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_list_label, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_date_label { display: block; font-weight: normal; } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_text, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_textarea, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_select, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_date_month, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_date_day, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_date_year, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_date { display: block; } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_text, #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_textarea { width: 200px; } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_checkbox { } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_submit { } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_divider { } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_message { } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_form_loading { width: 30px; text-align: center; line-height: normal; } #mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_form_loading > span { width: 5px; height: 5px; background-color: #5b5b5b; }#mailpoet_form_3{border: 1px solid #fcb900;border-radius: 40px;text-align: center;}#mailpoet_form_3 form.mailpoet_form {padding: 20px;}#mailpoet_form_3{width: 70%;}#mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_message {margin : 0; padding: 0 20px;}#mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_paragraph.last {margin-bottom: 0} @media (max-width: 500px) {#mailpoet_form_3 {background-image: none;}} @media (min-width: 500px) { #mailpoet_form_3 .last .mailpoet_paragraph:last-child {margin-bottom: 0}} @media (max-width: 500px) {#mailpoet_form_3 .mailpoet_form_column:last-child .mailpoet_paragraph:last-child {margin-bottom: 0}} Please leave this field emptyDo you write songs or would you like to?
