AseguraTIC: the INTEF website that educates (and informs) about Internet risks and digital rights

WhatsApp, social networks, Internet… Students use these tools daily to communicate, entertain themselves or obtain information both inside and outside of educational centers. However, in many cases they are not aware of the risks to which they are exposed, since they do not receive enough training to learn how to identify them. Therefore, it is important that families, teachers and administration have the necessary tools to guide and help them both to know their digital rights and to recognize the dangers that inappropriate use of the Internet and social networks entails for their privacy. This is precisely the purpose of AseguraTIC, a website promoted by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training through the INTEF that offers numerous resources to inform, train and raise awareness on everything related to this issue with the aim of protecting minors.

Resources, regulations, a search engine…

The website offers a wide collection of materials in digital format: content and teaching units, guides, presentations, websites, tasks, games, training courses… To locate them easily, it has a search engine that allows you to filter and narrow the search by topic, public, educational stage, type of resource, source and license of use. Furthermore, another section includes information related to the regulatory framework that regulates the fundamental right to data protection and digital rights. Among them, Article 83 of Organic Law 3/2018, of December 5, on the Protection of Personal Data and guarantee of digital rights stands out, which determines that the educational system must guarantee the Right to digital education through different lines. of work that affect the entire educational community.

For teachers

To help teachers in their educational tasks and guarantee the safety of students in the use of technologies, AseguraTIC provides guidance, training and resources on data protection regulations and the processing of personal data. In addition, it recommends resources applicable to any level, area or subject such as the document 'Guidelines on the use of digital tools in the educational field from the perspective of data protection'. It includes a list of 627 free digital tools (or with a trial version), classified according to their degree of compliance with European legislation on the protection of personal data.

For families

Families will also find a space with information to guide their children in the educational process related to the digital environment: it helps them understand certain behaviors and provides resources to know how to address certain situations or where to go if necessary. Two of the recommended resources in this case are the Priority Channel of the Spanish Data Protection Agency to communicate the dissemination of sensitive content and request its removal, and the Cybersecurity Help Line.

For minors

AseguraTIC reminds minors that the proper use of applications, social networks and email will avoid possible unwanted surprises in the future. With this objective, it makes available materials with information on the risks that directly affect them and tools to avoid and/or confront them, being aware of the personal and legal consequences that may arise from inappropriate practices. One of them is the AEPD website You decide on the internet, which is aimed directly at young people and provides simple and direct advice to function in the best way in the virtual world.
