Amazon MGM Studios has announced the hiring of Anne Hathaway to star in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's 2018 novel, 'Verity' (in Spain 'Verity. The shadow of a deception'). The film will be directed by Michael Showalter, with whom Hathaway recently worked on the romantic drama 'The Idea of Having You'. The official synopsis of the work is the following: Lowen Ashleigh, an author on the verge of bankruptcy, receives an assignment that will change her life: Jeremy, the new husband of Verity Crawford, one of the most important authors of the moment, hires her to finish the series of books his wife was working on before suffering a serious accident that left her in a coma. Lowen settles in the couple's mansion to be able to work on the notes that Verity was working on, hoping to find enough material to start his assignment, but what he did not expect to discover in the chaotic office is an autobiography of Verity herself. , hidden so that it never comes to light. Now Lowen must discern whether Verity's writings are simply lurid works of fiction or a sinister warning from a deranged psychopath. The script will be written by Nick Antosca, based on earlier drafts by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley and April Maguire. Antosca will also produce the film alongside Showalter, Hathaway, Hoover, Alex Hedlund, Jordana Mollick and Stacey Sher, with Lauren Levine serving as executive producer. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the film will be released in theaters, and not on a streaming service.
