Amazon orders its first James Bond franchise project

A week after Amazon’s acquisition of MGM for an estimated $8.5 billion was confirmed, the company has already started working on some potential projects from the studio’s library. From Variety they report that one of the first projects that will see the light will be an adventure program titled ‘007’s Road to a Million’. Prime Video has ordered an eight-episode first season focused on competitive racing where contestants will battle for a cash prize of one million pounds (1.2 million euros). This will be the first time that the legendary franchise has ventured onto the small screen, in a project that has apparently been four years in the making, since before Amazon considered buying MGM.

‘007’s Road to a Million’ will be backed by Bond franchise owners Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who will produce the show through EON Productions. David Glover from 72 Films and Barry Poznick and Mark Burnett from MGM Television will also participate in the production, in a contest that will be recorded in iconic places that we have seen in the Bond movies. In this future reality show, contestants will pass “intelligence and endurance tests,” which include “overcoming physical obstacles or correctly answering hidden questions in different parts of the world to advance to the next challenge.” Dom Bird will supervise this project for the studio, which is expected to begin production at the end of the year, since its casting has already begun.
