Baz Luhrmann to tackle project set in Joan of Arc story

Baz Luhrmann ('Australia') has found his next project in a film set in the story of Joan of Arc. As reported by Deadline, the film will be titled 'Jehanne or Jehanne d'Arc' (Joan or Joan of Arc) and while few details have emerged about it, it is described as “an epic tale about Joan of Arc.” Joan of Arc, a patron saint of France, is a legendary historical figure who became famous as a defender of the French nation during the Hundred Years' War in the 15th century. Joan claimed to be acting under divine guidance from the archangel Michael in her decision-making. In 1431, after being captured by the English, she was accused of heresy and burned at the stake at the age of 19. The outlet notes that Luhrmann is looking to cast a young woman to play the definitive story of a teenager coming of age, set during the Hundred Years' War. There have been countless depictions of Joan of Arc throughout history. The most recent film project came in 2019 with 'Jeanne', a film directed by Bruno Dumont and starring Lise Leplat Prudhomme. Remember that Luhrmann recreated the story of another iconic figure in his last work with 'Elvis', a film that covered the life and career of Elvis Presley. The film was a huge success and earned eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Austin Butler.
