Mike Faist will accompany Florence Pugh to direct the new version of 'East of Eden'

Netflix has given the green light to the adaptation in the form of a limited series of 'East of Eden'a project in which, according to Deadline, Mike Faist and Hoon Lee will accompany the previously announced Christopher Abbott and Florence Pugh. Zoe Kazan will be in charge of writing the series, which will have Jeb Stuart as showrunner and Kazan and Pugh as executive producers. The novel follows the interconnected stories of two families, the Trasks and the Hamiltons. The adaptation will explore the novel's themes of trauma and reparation; love and betrayal; duty and free will. The series will sketch an intimate portrait of the Trask family in the context of enormous historical forces or, as the novel's author John Steinbeck himself once said, “the history of my country and the history of me.” In 2022 we learned that the streaming service had acquired the rights to this adaptation after a major bidding war. Anonymous Content and Fifth Season will produce the seven-episode series, with Garth Davis directing the first four episodes and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directing the remainder. Davis, Clermont-Tonnerre, Antoine Douiahy and Zack Hayden will also participate in its executive production. The story was first adapted to the big screen in 1955, curiously being directed by Zoe Kazan's grandfather, Elia. In addition, the film was the first big role for one of the legendary actors in history, James Dean.
