There are some movies we love watching. Some are new releases that we can’t put down; others are all the old favourites which trigger our fond memories. And one of the most affectionate was Hocus Pocus. A Halloween staple, the movie was what we mostly grew up on. It may not be like the new witchy books and films (read: The chilling adventures of Sabrina), it seems to have its charm, nestled within the nostalgia.
A Sequel in the Works
The movie did get a 33 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes but seemed to be a fan favourite every Halloween, as viewership shoots up by almost 90 per cent. And we are glad to tell you that you don’t need to go back to the old anymore, the sequel is finally happening! Hocus Pocus Two is finally in the works and here is all the tea we have on it!
The Hocus Pocus remake, or sequel if you will, was officially confirmed in 2017. However, it has been three years since then, and the details are pretty here and there. The remake shall have a new screenwriter, Scarlett Lacey. The production shall, however, remain the same, David Kirschner, who shall be the executive producer on the new project. The original director shall not be staying with the franchise.
An All-New Cast?
While the original actresses Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy seemed excited to join the new production, there is news that Hocus Pocus Two shall feature an all-new cast. Then again, neither the actor nor the release date has been announced for the movie. There still seems to be a chance for the original stars to reprise their role.
Kenny Ortega, director of the original Hocus Pocus, told ET in 2017, “It would be much more fun to bring the ladies back. They are still in their prime and are capable of doing so much now.”
He also commented on the essentiality of the remake itself, “I don’t think there’s a need to recreate the magic. You need to start over and make new magic.”
