After Kodansha’s announcement of a season 2 of the In/Spectre (Kyoko Suiri) anime on Thursday, Crunchyroll has further confirmed the news that the anime is in the works on their Twitter today.
In/Spectre Season 2 To Be A New Crunchyroll’s Original
The second season of the anime is part of the Crunchyroll Originals line launched this year with the highly successful anime adaptation of Tower of God. The first season premiered in January 2020 and has both sub and dub versions available on their streaming platform.
The anime is based off of a manga by Kyo Shiradaira and Chasiba Katase, which is an adaptation of Shirodaira’s 2011 novel. The manga began serializing in Kodansha’s Shonen Magazine R in April 2015. The first season of the anime was made by animation studio Brain’s Base, responsible for animes including Spice and Wolf Season 2 (2009), Blood Lad (2013), and the first season of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU (2013), and directed by Keiji Gotoh, whose other works include: Kiddy Grade (2002), Sengoku Collection (2012), and Endride (2016).
The Story So Far
The anime revolves around Kotoko Iwanaga, who was made into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and the human realm by youkai when she was a young girl. Later on, she meets Kuro Sakuragawa, who, like her had encountered yokai in the past and has been granted healing powers by them. The two work together to maintain the balance between the spirit and the human worlds, while also gradually falling for one another. Season 2 will likely follow Kotoko and Kuro on their search for Rikka Sakuragawa, Kuro’s older cousin.
As of now Kodansha has released a visual and a promotional video of the upcoming season. The exact release date of the second season is still unknown.
