The first official trailer of The Expanse season 5 came out in the virtual New York Comic-con earlier this year. It confirmed that season 5 will premiere in December on Amazon Prime.

The show is based on James S. A. Corey’s series of novels of the same name. It is set hundreds of years in the future where the solar system has been colonized by humanity.

The Expanse Season 5 Release Date

The first three seasons of The Expanse aired on Syfy before it got canceled by the network. It was revived by Amazon and Season 4 got released in December 2019. Season 5 already got a nod from Amazon in July 2019, way before season 4 came out.

The production was complete by February 2020, before the deadly coronavirus shook the world in March and many production houses were forced to shut down.

This made it possible for The Expanse season 5 to stay on schedule and it’s time to see our beloved Steven Strait on the screen once again.

Amazon announced that the first three episodes of Season 5 will debut on December 16, 2020, with new episodes available every following Wednesday. The final episode will premiere on February 3, 2021. There are a total of 10 episodes in Season 5.

According to the official synopsis, season 5 will see many human beings leave the solar system in search of life past the alien ring. The trailer clearly shows that there will be a fierce and mind-boggling inter-galactic battle coming up.

The Solar system will face a new threat through the hands of Marco Inaros and his Free Navy. It is also believed that our four main heroes will be split for a large period of time dealing with their own past and present.

Cast:

Most of the series regulars are coming back with only a few exceptions. The main cast includes Steven Strait as James Holden, Wes Chatham as Amos Burton, Dominique Tipper as Naomi Nagata, Frankie Adams as Bobbie Draper, Cas Anvar as Alex Kamal, Cara Gee as Camina Drummer, and Shohreh Aghdashloo as Chrisjen Avasarala. David Strathairn is not expected to return after his character died at the end of season 4.
