“Pachinko” and the Emmy Snub, What Happened?

Critics and fans are shocked that the Emmys have practically evaded the original series from Apple TV + “Pachinko«. Many media outlets were quick to make reports of the show’s rejection, questioning why the series was not featured at the 2022 Emmy Awards. On July 12, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) announced the final nominees for the 74th Emmy Awards. «Squid Game» became the first non-English language show to be nominated for 14 Emmy Awards, but Pachinko only got a nomination for one of the creative awards, in the category outstanding Main Title Design. This category consists of rewarding the creators of the introduction to a series, which we see in each chapter and for which we come to recognize a series. Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, Pachinko garnered a lot of attention for its star-studded cast, including Oscar-winner Kim Min Ha Youn Yu Jung Y Lee Minho, and also won rave reviews from critics around the world for its production values such as photography, editing, costumes, outdoor scenes, emotions conveyed by the actors, etc. Regarding the show’s rejection, IndieWire noted that “it’s hard to pinpoint a specific reason why “Pachinko” was largely ignored at the Emmys. It could be stiff competition, it could be a lack of mainstream audience, it could be a bunch of little reasons that piled up at the wrong time. But such a widespread dismissal is difficult to accept.” The Hollywood Reporter commented, “Pachinko’s opening credits deserve the nomination they got, but the rest of the show deserves a bunch more nominations they didn’t get.” The LA Times reported, “Soo Hugh’s magnificent series might have been the best show on TV this past year, so the lack of recognition hurts.” And then it hurts us more!! I mean we agree that the Blue Dragon Series Awards didn’t include this show, but the Emmys?? Zapzee Credits
