Creator Of Sonic The Hedgehog Still Does Not Like The Redesign Of The Character. But Why?

Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic The Hedgehog, still has a huge problem with the new design of the movie. The fans were treated with the first trailer with the newly designed hedgehog yesterday. The videogame fans seemed to be quite satisfied with the outcome of the new design, and one shouldn’t be too surprised. Let’s admit it, the first design was trash, and any improvement was going to be a major step up for the big-screen adaptation.

While fans of Sonic The Hedgehog are happy and satisfied with the new design revealed by Paramount, the brains behind the character have something to grumble about. The first movie version of Sonic had some human features such as long legs, teeth and eyes. It was a horrid looking Sonic. Though, now we have a much better looking and close to the original design, something that fans know and will definitely love, creator Yuji Naka wishes further change. Explaining, he said:

“This is the new trailer with Sonic’s new design. The design is much more Sonic-like now that he’s wearing gloves. However, his eyes still aren’t joined together, as expected. I can’t help but feel weird about that one point. But I’m looking forward to the movie’s release.”

While the fact that Sonic’s eyes aren’t joined together has been an issue for some fans, it looks like the new design is something that a majority of the fans can cope with. The first trailer had blown up the internet as fans saw what the hedgehog would look on the big screen. Even though the initial design is gone, Yuji Naka wants to see what the original one looked like. He said:

“Sonic’s new design for the movie is out. However, it seems they’re making it as if the old design didn’t exist, as the movie official account’s old tweets were deleted. I wanted to see a special DVD version of the movie which used the old design. Too bad.”

After all the fan protest about the initial design, it is unlikely that Universal would put out a cut from the original movie after having fully redesigned Sonic The Hedgehog.

Sonic The Hedgehog was supposed to release this month but was postponed for redesigning. It appears that Paramount has been successful in its campaign to redesign the character from head to toe (to gloves?) and fans who were absolutely against the idea of the character, are finally starting to come around in acceptance.
