Christopher Cantwell working on a new version of ‘Max Headroom’

AMC Networks is working on a new television version of ‘Max Headroom’, a cult series created by George Stone, Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel in 1987. Christopher Cantwell, creator with Christopher C. Rogers of ‘Halt and Catch Fire’, is the one at the forefront of this reinterpretation as screenwriter and showrunner. Cantwell will also serve as executive producer alongside Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah, whose SpectreVision will back the project. Thirty-five years later, Matt Frewer will reprise his role as the aforementioned “Max Headroom,” a computer-generated presenter who introduced himself to the world in a 1985 television special titled “Max Headroom: 20 Minutes Into the Future.” He became an instant pop culture phenomenon, hosting a music video show, starring in New Coke commercials or appearing on the cover of Newsweek before starring in his own series. ‘Screen Man Max Headroom’ aired on ABC for two seasons, between 1987 and 1988.
