Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Star in ‘Ash’, Fantastic Thriller Directed by Flying Lotus

Tessa Thompson and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will lead the cast of ‘ash’, a fantastic thriller to be directed by musician Steven Ellison, better known by his stage name Flying Lotus. It will be the second film as Lotus director after ‘Kuso’, a 2017 film unreleased around here whose script he also co-wrote. In addition, he has directed one of the segments of ‘V/H/S/99’, a new installment in the saga that will begin its tour of festivals such as Sitges this fall. Written by newcomer Jonni Remmler, ‘ash’ follows an astronaut (Thompson) who wakes up one day on the distant planet to which she is destined to find that the rest of her companions have been brutally murdered. Another astronaut (Gordon-Levitt) will be sent to rescue her and investigate with her what happened, which according to the official version “will set in motion a horrible series of events that makes them wonder if they can really trust each other.” In addition to directing it, Flying Lotus will also be in charge of composing its soundtrack. ‘ash’ It will be an XYZ Films and GFC Films production, with XYZ itself handling its sales during the Toronto Film Festival which starts in a few days. The shooting of the film is scheduled for the first half of 2023 on locations in New Zealand, and among its executive producers the name of the filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (‘District 9’) stands out. Curiously, today it has been announced that Gordon-Levitt will also be part of the cast of what has been baptized as ‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley‘, fourth installment of the franchise of ‘Super detective in Hollywood’ to count again with the leading role of Eddie Murphy. Taylour Paige (‘Zola’) will also be part of the cast of this Jerry Bruckheimer production for Netflix (instead of Paramount Pictures) which will be directed by newcomer Mark Molloy. In the last year we have been able to see Gordon-Levitt in two television series, each one more interesting. First premiere in the summer of 2021 ‘Mr. Corman’, an Apple TV+ series developed, written, directed by and starring him. And earlier this year it was the turn of ‘Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber’, a Showtime series endorsed by the creators of ‘Billions’ in which he played Travis Kalanick, the ambitious Uber CEO who would eventually be fired from his own company in a unanimous extraordinary meeting.
