‘Cuties’ Trailer Out On Netflix, All Set To Release On September 9

The trailer of ‘Cuties’, the debut movie of French-Senegalese filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré as a director, is out on Netflix now. The film will be visible on the popular online streaming platform from 9th September. It was premiered earlier at the Sundance Film Festival at the first half of this year.

The story of ‘Cuties’ is an interesting one and has a good flow. It is mainly about an eleven years old girl Amy. She is from a family where her mother has her own values and her father isn’t with them. Amy waits for his father and lives within disciplines taught by her mother. At a certain time, Amy meets Angelica while the latter was dancing.

Angelica has a world completely different from that of Amy. She runs a dance group and lives on her own. Amy gets impressed by Angelica’s lifestyle and dance. She wants Angelica to teach her dancing. Angelica at first takes it jokingly but finally agrees. Once Amy starts taking lessons, she gets praises only. Now she enters the world of Angelica which is to a great extent unknown to her. When Amy’s mother finds out she is engaging herself in activities like stealing money to go for shopping with friends, she gets a shock. Amy finds it hard to balance two parallel lives.

Cuties stars Fathia Youssouf, Esther Gohourou, Médina El Aidi, Myriam Hamma, Ilanah, Demba Diaw, Therese M’Bissine Diop, and Maïmouna Gueye also. Cuties follow 11-YO Amy, from the city of Senegal, who is uncertain between her family’s old-style, conventional way of life, and the escape offered by free-minded fellow citizen Angelica and her dance group.

The film had got a positive response when it was premiered earlier. The concept was acclaimed by Decider journalist Anna Menta and others. The makers as well as viewers have great expectations from the movie. The online platforms have turned popular nowadays owing to the pandemic.
