Euphoria, the popular HBO series that garnered a huge audience, with its compelling storyline on youth, trauma, and addiction had been confirmed for a second season. Here are the latest updates on when the new season will release, and what can fans expect from it.
Euphoria Season 2 Release Date
Season 1 was released in the summer of 2019, and although its second season was already confirmed in July of the same year, filming and production have obviously been delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Zendaya who plays the lead in the show told Variety, “We were supposed to go back to work, I believe, on March 16, and, literally, three or four days before that, they were shut down. I was like, ‘I was so close.’ We did camera tests and hair and makeup tests, and we got to see everybody and we had the sets were built.”

Filming has now been postponed to 2021, so the new season cannot be expected any sooner than late 2021 or even early 2022.
What To Expect In The New Season
Euphoria follows the journey of Rue Bennet and her peers as they navigate their youth and their struggles of addiction, love, self-identity, in a coming of age drama.
Season 1 ended with a lot of unanswered questions in the minds of the viewers, fans being especially concerned about Rue’s relapse. Season 2 will probably elaborate on Rue and Jules’ relationship and the consequences of Jules’ choices in the previous season.
The new season will also show us what becomes of the Jacobs family after Maddy becomes privy to the video of Cal Jacobs and Jules, Cal and Nate’s relationship, we’ll also get to see more of Fezco and Barbie Ferreira’s lives.
Like season 1, season 2 will be largely written and directed by Sam Levinson, and executive produced by Drake. Jeremy O. Harris will be acting as a co-producer.
This season will see the return of Zendaya as Rue along with Hunter Schafer as Jules, and others from the previous season, including, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Kat Hernandez, and others.
We may also get to see some new faces join the cast.
A Surprise In The Holidays?
In the meantime, while fans patiently wait for the next season, two special episodes have been announced, the first of which will premiere on December 6. The events will be set between the first and the second season and will show a bond developing between Rue and Ali, played by Colman Domingo. Details of the second episode have not been revealed as of yet.
