Birds Of Prey: Hit or Miss?? Details and More!!

“Hit or miss, I guess they never miss, huh?”

Hitting off this year’s slew of comic book movies is Birds of Prey, DC’s latest stint. After widespread recognition and awards from every ceremony, Joker has paved the way to newer, edgier comic book movies and DC delivers. And herein comes Birds of Prey, a film based solely on The Joker’s counterpart, or rather ex-counterpart, Harley Quinn, and her merry band of trouble-makers. Was it a hit or a miss? Let’s find out.

What’s the story even about?

Birds of Prey is not a movie for everyone. DC makes it a point not to be light or breezy and takes to its anti-heroes with gusto. An edgier film, Birds of Prey is not the typical superhero comic book film you’d expect it to be. First of all, there are no superheroes. Batman is gone. And our favourite villain to hate, The Joker seems to have vanished into thin air. And instead has decided to snag all the awards he was due.

The story begins after Harley Quinn and the Joker’s breakup. With Joker being AWOL, it’s up to Harley Quinn to take charge of her own life and show the city that she’s the worst villain. However, during her brief relationship with the Joker, she seems to have made a lot of enemies, most of them not necessarily good people. While the movie does begin with her fending them off on her own, she soon finds people with the same enemies. And as the age-old saying goes, “Your enemy’s enemy is your friend.”

“The women in this movie are the absolute best.”

Harley Quinn and her rag-tag group of five, make for an unlikely team, but they do pull it off marvellously while we do agree that DC began to a rocky start with movies like Batman v. Superman and Justice League, it’s off running now, and we can’t help but wait for more.

Birds of Prey, however, has come with its fair share of warnings. Many critics warn that the movie relies on dark humour and most concepts are not really for everybody. So if you’re up for a screening of Birds of Prey this weekend, we’d suggest you take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. From a hit to a miss, we give this movie, a definite hit!
